KNR 278: Therapeutic Recreation Service DeliverySelected IndexesSPORTDiscus SPORTDiscus may be the most direct way to locate information since everything in this database is related to sport. Before you start searching, look near the bottom of the screen and notice that you can limit to a specific Database Subset. Try limiting to Recreation and Leisure. You may also want to limit the Language to English. Then try typing in the disability you have chosen. Don't type in too many terms! You may also need to try alternative terms or broader "umbrella" terms. You will probably pull up citations for book chapters, dissertations, and trade journals. For some assignments, you may want to limit to "peer reviewed." CINAHL Note: You will probably want to click on "Keyword" in the upper left hand corner before starting your search. CINAHL covers Nursing and Allied Health. One relevant subject heading is Recreational Therapy. PsycINFO As the name indicates, a database that covers Psychology. Includes books, book chapters, and dissertations. One relevant subject heading is Recreation Therapy. PubMed An extremely comprehensive database covering Medicine. ERIC Covers the field of Education. Key JournalsNote: The links to the databases take you to the tables of contents for the selected journals. You can perform a narrower search by adding another term, e.g., the particular disability you are writing about. Therapeutic Recreation Journal TRJ is not available online, but do not overlook this key source of information. Even though the full text is not available online, you can browse the article titles. The most current source of indexing is in SPORTDiscus. You can add another term to this search, but you will probably be able to identify relevant articles just by examining the article titles. Annual in Therapeutic Recreation Some full text is available on the journal's web site (click on the year). The most comprehensive indexing is in the CINAHL database. Disability and Society Our subscription to this journal does include the full text. The scope goes beyond recreation, so all of the articles may not be useful for this assignment, but this important journal is worth checking. American Journal of Recreation Therapy Unfortunately, no libraries in our consortia subscribe to this relative newcomer (first published in 2002) . However, it is indexed in CINAHL, and Milner can try to obtain copies through interlibrary loan. Plan ahead if you think you will need articles from this journal!
