1. Where is the Digitization Center?
Our temporary location is on the 5th floor of Milner Library.
2. I found your website while doing a search for local digitization centers. If I’m a private citizen with no affiliation with ISU, non-profit organizations, or a commercial business, can you still help me?
Yes, we can. You can receive the same services as everyone else, but will not receive the discounted rates. Look at the commercial column of the fee schedule for pricing information.
3. What kind of media storage do you offer?
You can purchase a CD-R, DVD, or flash drive, from us for a reasonable price. Any disks that have been brought in will need to be scanned for viruses prior to use.
4. How do I know that the items you digitize for me now will be accessible in 5, 10, or 15 years from now?
The short answer is—we can’t say for sure. But, we use the State Library, archival standards, and best practices to choose the file formats and storage media we offer. Your best bet would be to digitize now and reevaluate the accessibility of those files in a few years. You will need to reformat your files before the format that was used initially becomes obsolete.
5. I’m thinking about doing a large-scale digitization project and would like to use your services. What is my next step?
You have a few options. You can submit the project proposal form to us electronically and we will contact you to iron out the details, or you can email or call us to set up a time to come in, see the facility, and write up a proposal. If you’d like to just run a few ideas by us in a casual way, email or call the Digitization Center anytime.
6. We’ve decided to use the Digitization Center for a large project. Can we get any sort of reduced rate?
Any project includes a lot of variables (equipment, scope of the work, staff time, etc.), so this will need to be decided on a case-by-case basis. Submit a project proposal or contact the Digitization Center directly for pricing information.
7. What file formats do you use?
TIFF, JPEG, and PDF are our standard formats. If you have a specific format you need, contact the Digitization Center to find out if we’re capable of creating that type of file.
8. What resolution do you use for scanning and photography?
Those decisions are based on the equipment that is used, what your needs are, and the standards & best practices we adhere to. Contact the Digitization Center regarding your request.
