Circulation & Access Services

Collection Development
Collection Development is one of the primary functions of a university library. Books, periodicals, audiovisual material, and electronic resources are selected by a group of subject specialists, reference librarians who serve in the five subject divisions of Milner Library. In cooperation with teaching faculty liaisons, these librarians purchase items which serve the instructional and research needs of Illinois State's students and faculty. The work of the subject specialists is coordinated by Chad Buckley, (email:cebuckle@ilstu.edu).

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
When an item is not available in Milner Library it can be requested from another library in the CARLI consortium. If the item is not available through the consortium, then a request can be placed through the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan online request form. Each patron must create an account in the ILLiad service before a request can be placed. All article requests must use the ILLiad online request form. The ILL service is available to all ISU faculty, staff, and students. All ILL items (whether ascertained through the consortium or the ILLiad service) can be picked-up at the Circulation desk located on the main (2nd) floor. A valid ISU ID is required to pick-up materials borrowed from another library.

Learning Resource Center
The Learning Resource Center (LRC) contains non-print materials that cover all subjects taught at ISU. Any patron may listen to or view items in one of the individual carrels equipped with CD, LP, cassette, videotape, slide, 16mm film, filmstrip, or videodisc players. There is also a viewing room for group projects. Non-print reserve materials for classes are also available here.

Milner Computer Lab
The Milner Computer Lab (MCL) is located on the main floor of the library. The MCL offers 104 Dell PCs, 2 Dell workstations/scanners, 2 ADA workstations/scanners, and 4 iMac computers. University Students, faculty and staff must present their University ID Card in order to use the lab. B&W and color laser printing is available with the University ID Card or a Guest Copy Card.

Preservation
The Preservation Department includes the Bindery Preparation, Conservation, and Physical Processing units, and is administered by a full-time Preservation Librarian. The Preservation Department is a dynamic area, which is expanding to meet the traditional and evolving needs of Milner Library and Illinois State University.
