Library FloorplansMilner Library's collections and services are organized into broad subject areas by floor. Each entry below lists the subjects and call number ranges for the floor in question. Follow the appropriate link to view a map of each floor (graphical browsers only). Floor OneSubjects:Floor one includes materials for Education, Psychology, Religion, Philosophy, and Sports. Call Numbers On Floor 1: A, B, GV, L, Z. Technical Services: The library's Acquisitions and Cataloging departments are also located on floor one. While access is normally restricted to library staff, visitors are welcome. Access is through room 109; please stop inside the Technical Services entrance and ask for directions to the person you wish to see.
Floor TwoSubjects:Floor Two includes the general service areas for the entire library. These services are the Reference Desk, the Circulation and Reserve Desks. Floor two also houses the Milner Computer Lab. Call Numbers On Floor 2: Floor two houses the Reference Collection featuring all call number ranges. Reference: Librarians and staff are available at this desk to answer questions and to help patrons develop their skills in using the library. The reference staff assists patrons using the online catalog and other computer systems, answering reference questions, searching indexes, locating materials, and developing search strategies utilizing appropriate sources from all floors of the library. Circulation and Reserve Desks:All library materials are charged out from and returned at the Circulation Desk. A bar-coded ID or other appropriate identification must be presented to check out library materials. Special reading materials requested by professors for class assignments are at the Reserve Desk. Identification (see above) is also needed here to check out materials. Floor ThreeSubjects: Floor three houses primarily circulating book stacks. No public service desks are located on this floor. The Library Administration offices are also located on floor three. Call Numbers On Floor 3:C, D, E, F, U, V.
Floor FourSubjects: Floor four houses materials for business, economics, history, political science, sociology, social work, anthropology, law, criminal justice, geography/ maps and Government Documents. Call Numbers On Floor 4:G, H, J, K. Government Documents are arranged by their SuDoc call numbers. Map Collection:The Map Collection has major holdings of U.S. and Canadian topographic quadrangle maps, geological maps of many states and countries, aerial photographs, road maps and recreations literature are available.
Floor FiveSubjects:Floor five houses materials for agriculture, information technology, biological sciences, chemistry, health sciences, home economics, industrial technology, mathematics, physics and photography. Additional resources are available for clinical psychology, environmental health, geology, occupational safety, physical education, speech pathology, and audiology. Call Numbers On Floor 5:Q, R, S, T.
Floor SixSubjects:Floor six houses materials of various formats (print, audio, video, computer) on art, film, language, literature, music, and theater. Floor six is also home to the Learning Resource Center, Special Collections/Rare Book Room, the Picture File, and the Teaching Materials Center (TMC) . Call Numbers On Floor 6:M, N, P, Z. TMC: Easy Readers, Fiction, Non-fiction. Textbooks Collection. Learning Resource Center: The Learning Resource Center (LRC) contains non-print materials that cover all subjects taught at ISU. Any patron may listen to or view items in one of the individual carrels equipped with CD, LP, cassette, videotape, slide, 16mm film, filmstrip, or videodisc players. There is also a viewing room for group projects. Non-print reserve materials for classes are also available here. Teaching Materials Center: The TMC contains a representative collection of instructional materials including textbooks, books for children and young adults, and audiovisual materials intended for use by students from preschool through grade twelve. Materials for teachers' professional use include activity books, curriculum guides, teaching aids, publishers' catalogs, and standardized tests. Special Collections/Rare Book Room:Special Collections houses materials on the circus and allied arts book collection, works of several British and American authors, the Lincoln Collection of Harold K. Sage, subject collections in drama, humor, and history of printing, historical children's literature and textbooks, works from small private presses, 18th and 19th century operatic scores, and limited editions and fine bindings. |
