High School Visitation

Milner Library has enjoyed a history of hosting high school classrooms for a research trip. Instructional Services strives to partner with the community particularly through collaborative efforts with teachers, school library media specialists and students. In creating these partnerships, when possible, we wish to fully include the school library media specialist to help provide specific assistance for your students as they continue working on their research in their school libraries following their research day at Milner Library. Nearly a dozen different high school classes from the Central Illinois area have come to Milner Library to enhance their students' research experience. Research assignments have included current and controversial issues, agriculture and animal science topics, literature and biography, and world history.

A variety of classes from the following area schools have had Research Days at Milner Library. Is your school listed here?

  • Bloomington High School
  • Bureau Valley High School
  • Chenoa High School
  • Clinton High School
  • Fieldcrest High School
  • Gridley High School
  • Hartsburg/Emden High School
  • Lexington High School
  • Midland High School
  • Olympia High School
  • University High School

Teachers who wish to bring their high school students to Milner Library for a tour and a hands-on instructional session on using Milner Library resources for their research assignments should contact:

Sean Walton at spwalto@ilstu.edu or 309-438-3953

Due to campus demands for instructional space, high school instruction is limited to Fridays. Please take note of our library hours. When scheduling your class research day at Milner Library, please provide the following information:

  • Your name, contact information, and work address
  • Your school library media specialist's name and contact information
  • The class title and number of students
  • The research assignment as given to the students
  • Learning objectives for the Milner Library research day
  • Make special note of any specific requests and/or needs

Since your students will be unable to check-out any library materials, they will want to come prepared with money to purchase a copy card to make their photocopies during the visit. The copy card costs $1 and an additional amount is needed to place money on the card to make actual photocopies. Copies made using these cards cost $.08 per page. If the students do not wish to purchase a copy card and would rather use bills or coins for photocopying, each photocopied page will cost $.10. To print any pages off of the public access computers, however, they will need to purchase a copy card. It is recommended that the students bring one and five dollar bills and/or change. Our library change machine will only accept one and five dollar bills.

If you plan to spend the day, there are a number of campus dining centers and Bone Student Center available on the ISU campus for your lunch-time options.

We look forward to providing a positive and effective research experience for you and your students.
