Classroom Use Policy

General Principles

  • Library instruction sessions have priority over all other uses of the classrooms.
  • Milner Library classrooms are not available for use by the campus and off-campus communities, except in special circumstances.

Scheduling

  • Milner faculty and staff will be the only persons authorized to schedule.
    • If requests are made in Outlook by non-Milner faculty, staff or students, they will be contacted via email that they are not allowed to schedule.
    • All scheduling requests for room 311g, by Milner and non-Milner faculty, staff or students must be done by contacting Milner's Administrative Services
  • Reservation requests by non-Milner faculty, staff and students should be made to the Coordinator for Library Instruction and Information Literacy, and will be subject to administrative approval.
    • If requests are made in Outlook by non-Milner faculty, staff or students, the requester(s) will be contacted via email that they are not allowed to schedule.
    • If one is interested in a library instruction session for your class, they should contact the Coordinator for Library Instruction and Information Literacy, or their subject specialist librarian (http://www.library.ilstu.edu/directory/specialists.php).

Policies

  • Use of computers in classrooms falls under the University's Policy on Appropriate Use of Information Technology Resources and Systems (http://www.policy.ilstu.edu/technology/9-2.shtml).
  • Maximum room occupancy capacity for instructional purposes
    • 164d: 34
    • 213c: 42
    • 184: 14
    • Please note: A maximum of one additional chair can be added to a row of computer desks for the sharing of a computer monitor and keyboard
  • No food and/or beverage allowed in classrooms
  • No cell phones may be utilized in classrooms by students, even when room is being utilized for non-instructional purposes.
  • Equipment Operations
    • Installation, modification or deletion of software is not allowed, except by Milner faculty and staff.
      • In cases where specialized software is required, request for assistance from the Systems Division must be made at least two weeks prior to scheduled use of room.
    • Faculty and staff must contact the Coordinator for Library Instruction and Information Literacy prior to event for information on instructional technology capabilities and/or to arrange training
    • Please report any equipment malfunctions to the Coordinator for Library Instruction and Information Literacy, Milner Library Help Desk (x8399) or any reference/information desk.
  • Cancellations
    • If a session is cancelled, make sure to remove it from Outlook
      • If non-Milner Library request, faculty or staff member are asked to notify the Coordinator for Library Instruction and Information Literacy.
    • If the faculty or staff member does not arrive within 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, and did not provide prior notice, the room will be made available and the library instruction session will be cancelled (if applicable).
      • Repeated failure by non-Milner Library faculty or staff member to give notice of cancellations may lead to suspension of reservation privileges

Procedures

  • End of session shutdown procedures
    • properly turn off data projector and any other instructional technology
    • secure wireless keyboard and mouse in cabinet [Rooms 164d and 213c]
      • securely place wireless mouse in charger (green light should be on) [Rooms 164d, 184, 213c, 311g]
    • lock cabinets [Rooms 164d and 213c]
    • erase white boards and chalkboards
    • push in chairs at instructor station and patron desks
    • log-off instructor station computer and patron computers
    • pick up leftover handouts or other instructional materials
    • throw away garbage
    • turn off lights
    • lock door(s)
  • Last session of day shutdown procedures [in addition to above]
    • properly shutdown instructor workstation, data projector, other instructional technology and patron computers
    • lock door(s)

Room Facts

  • Rooms 164d and 213c are instructional classrooms designed for hands on instruction. Rooms 184 and 311g are conference rooms; primarily designed for meetings (no patron computer workstations are available).
  • Printing
    • Room 164d - printouts go to networked printers throughout library (utilize copy card readers)
    • Room 213c - printouts go to printer in back of room (utilizes copy card reader)
