Bibliographic Services Division

The Division Head of Bibliographic Services is Ted Schwitzner, and the faculty include Anita Foster, Priscilla Matthews, and Sandy Roe.

The Division consists of three units: Acquisitions, Cataloging and Records Maintenance, and Serials.

Acquisitions is responsible for order placement, receipt and initial payment processing for all materials--books, periodicals, newspapers, music scores and recordings, videotapes, and multimedia, access to online bibliographic databases, etc.

The major responsibility of Cataloging and Records Maintenance (CRM) is to maintain online catalog records for Milner Library materials in all formats. This includes cataloging all materials and keeping the online catalog up to date. CRM verifies order information for purchasing library materials and participates in the ordering process. CRM verifies or enhances bibliographic description of materials, assigns classification and subject headings as need and appropriate, and creates holdings and item information. Members of the division also provide maintenance service for the ongoing changes to the online catalog.

Serials are publications, in any format, issued in successive parts bearing numeric and/or chronological designations and intended to be published indefinitely. Because of this inherently complex nature, a team of acquisitions specialists and cataloging specialists work together to place orders, receive, and catalog this category of material.
