Education: Citation Formats

The style manual most frequently recommended by professors of Education at Illinois State University for  writing research papers and bibliographies is the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th ed. (APA Style)

  • Copies of this manual are available at the reference desks on Floors 1, 2, 5 and 6.
  • Milner has also produced two handouts that describe some of the basic rules: APA Style Guide and Citing Internet and Electronic Sources: APA Style.
  • Information about citing electronic sources in the APA format can also be found on the APA web site at Electronic References. Probably the part that will be most relevant is the section dealing with Internet Articles Based on a Print Source. Be aware that this section continues to change. Note that now it is not necessary to include a URL when citing articles when the electronic and print versions are identical.
