No one index provides a complete source of information on apparel merchandising and design. The following indexes are available by accessing find articles on your topic from Milner Library's homepage.

    Covers magazines and periodicals on a wide variety of subjects.  Some full text articles available

    Provides references to articles on the history of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present.  Provides citations, abstracts, and some links to full text
  • American Periodicals Series Online 1741-1900  
    Provides references and full text to American popular and professional periodicals from the years 1741-1900.  The full text often includes illustrations 
  • Applied Science & Technology Index     
    Selectively covers science and technology.  Provides references to journal articles on topics such as technology related to the textile industry and clothing imports and exports 
  • AGRICOLA         
    Indexes items related to agriculture and home economics which include textiles and  apparel.  Use the thesaurus for indexing
  • Art Abstracts  
    Covers more than 285 periodicals, museum bulletins, and yearbooks from 1984 to present.  Includes references to fashion design, specific designers, wearable art, and costume exhibitions

    Indexes a wide variety of magazines and journal from 1990 to present. Emphasis is on prompt coverage.  Updated daily

    Provides citations, abstracts and full text to over 960 journals on business, management, economics, finance, banking, accounting, and more.  Includes references to the clothing trade, textile & apparel industries, and general fashion topics.  Note Company Profiles icon for information on specific companies
  • Global Market Information Database
    A database that includes marketing information on clothing and footwear specific to individual countries.
  • GPO Monthly Catalog
    The database for US government publications.  There are many publications related to he clothing and textile industry.  References often give URLs for full text retrieval 
  • Harpweek 
    Provides full text of Harper’s Weekly, a primary resource for examining 19th century America, 1857-1877.  Some full text articles are illustrated
  • Hearth
    Available via http://hearth.library.cornell.edu  Click on the search option found on the left of your screen and you will be able to access the Health database which indexes book and journals published from 1850-1950.  Many sources are avaialble in full text
  • Historical Abstracts
    Covers the history of the world from 1450 to the present.  It excludes  United States and Canada which are covered in the database America History and Life
  • PsycINFO
    Includes references to psychological aspects of clothing and dress including consumer behavior and attitudes, marketing, body image, and fads and fashion
  • Reader’s Guide Abstracts 
    Indexes popular magazines.  Covers a wide variety of topics
  • Social Sciences Abstracts
    Includes references to articles and book reviews in the social sciences.  Includes references on the psychological aspects of clothing and dress.  Updated monthly 
  • Textile Technology Index      
    Originating in 1944, this database covers literature related to textile production and processing such as textile end products, manufacturing techniques, and chemicals and yes. The perspective is both current and historical with some records going back to 1800
  • WilsonSelectPlus  
    Indexes articles from a wide variety of journals and magazines including those relatedto textiles and fashion.  Most references are available in full text starting in 1994
  • WorldCat
    Contains over 36 million records of any type of material, including books, cataloged by libraries in the United States

Major Journals & Magazines

Current journals are located on the main floor of Milner Library.  Earlier volumes are found on the floors corresponding to the call number of the journal.  For instance, journals with call mumbers beginning with T can be found on floor five; those starting with H are on floor four.  Volumes older than 2000 are stored in the basement of the library and can be requested at the reference desk on the main floor.  Please note that the following does not list all the journals and magazines that might be relevant to your topic.
