Information Technology: StandardsAmerican National Standards Institute (ANSI) - A private, nonprofit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system. The Institute's mission is to enhance both the global competitiveness of U.S. business and the U.S. quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems, and safeguarding their integrity. International Organization for Standardization (ISO) - A worldwide federation of national standards bodies from more than 140 countries. ISO's mission is to promote the development of standardization and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services, and to developing cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and Internet Architecture Board (IAB) - Groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards. MPEG - The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) is a working group of ISO/IEC in charge of the development of international standards for compression, decompression, processing, and coded representation of moving pictures, audio and their combination. National Information Standards Organization (NISO) - A nonprofit association accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). NISO identifies, develops, maintains, and publishes technical standards to manage information. NISO standards apply to traditional and new technologies and to the full range of information related needs, including retrieval, re-purposing, storage, metadata, and preservation. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - A nonregulatory federal agency within the U.S. Commerce Department's Technology Administration. NIST develops and promotes measurements, standards, and technology for a wide range of products and services to enhance productivity and facilitate trade. World Standards Services Network - Network of publicly accessible World Wide Web servers of standards organizations.
