Almanac of Policy Issues: Excellent site that provides links to important and current public policy issues.

American Presidency Project: Rich site, from the University of Virginia's Miller Center of Public Affairs, has a wealth of primary sources including public papers, party platforms (from 1840-present) , speeches, video, and audio.

Biographical Dictionary of the United States Provides biographical sketches and years in Congress. Searches are by name, party,state and congress.

Congresslink: Excellent site, from the Dirksen Congressional Center, for basic information about Congress.

Google U.S. Government Search: Includes U.S. federal, state and local sites with domains such as .gov, .mil as well as select government sites with .com, .us, and .edu domains (eg. .usps.com, .ca.us and ndu.edu).

Law and Policy Institutions Guide: This site provides free access to many law review articles. There is also a generous amount of information about basic legal questions. It contains current and useful sources for legal research and practice.

Opensecrets.org: The site proclaims "Your Guide to the Money in US Elections." And they are correct. Detailed and virtually complete guide to campaign finance in the United States. Information about donations to campaigns at every level (local,state, and national) and from every source (individual to PAC). Created and supported by the Center for Responsive Politics, a respected political watchdog group.

Political Advocacy Groups: A Directory of United States Lobbyists: Has links to nearly 500 web sites of United States Lobbyists. Groups are listed alphabetically and also organized into approximately 50 subjects.

THOMAS: Access to a vast amount of information from Congress, including ability to search for bills and resolutions, public laws, roll call votes, current activity in Congress, Congressional Record, legislative schedules and calendars, committee information, presidential nominations, treaties and links to other online legislative and governmental resources.

USA.gov: Official web site of the United States government contains links to federal, state, local and tribal political sites with a wealth of online information, services and resources. It was formerly known as firstgov.gov.

YouTube Politicians: YouTube channel offers centralized access to online political campaign advertising.
