Grandest of Enterprises: Illinois State Normal University, 1857-1957by Helen E. Marshall Grandest of Enterprises is the fourth campus history, commemorating the campus centennial in 1956-1957. It follows A History of Illinois State Normal University (the 25-year history by Cook and McHugh), Semi-Centennial History of Illinois State Normal University (the 50-year history written cooperatively by faculty members), and The Development of the Teachers College in the United States with Special Reference to Illinois State Normal University (the 75-year history by Harper). Publication of Grandest of Enterprises was one of many activities of a year-long centennial celebration overseen by new university president Robert Bone. Its author, Helen E. Marshall, taught history at the "Normal" for 32 years and was a frequent publisher of campus history articles and books.
