The Thirteenth Decade: Illinois State University, 1977-1987

by Roger J. Champagne
Normal, Illinois (1989)

The Thirteenth Decade is the third of the decadal histories intended as updates to Helen Marshall's centennial history, Grandest of Enterprises.  This is the second of two decadal histories authored by Roger Champagne, Professor Emeritus of History who spent more than 30 years on campus.

While the preceding decadal history, A Place of Education, documents the explosive growth and campus unrest of the 1960s and early 1970s, The Thirteenth Decade focuses on the quality, funding, and direction of academic programs at Illinois State.  The book documents issues and activities that occurred during the administration of President Lloyd Watkins, who served from 1977 to 1988.
